<OBJECTIVES>On conclusion of the subject students will be prepared to deal with newspaper articles covering current issues. They will be able to discuss the topics taken up in the reading materials.
<CONTENT>The subject consists of two weekly sessions, one devoted to the development of reading skills through daily newspapers and the other to spoken skills through discussion.
<ASSESSMENT>Second and Third Years: Assignments and quizzes totalling not more than 2,500 words in written work; one 2-hour written examination; one oral/aural perception test (maximum 30 minutes). Fourth Year: Assignments and quizzes totalling not more than 2,500 words in written work; one 2-hour written examination; one oral/aural perception test (maximum 30 minutes); one translation exercise (equivalent to not more than 1,000 words in written work).
