Either semester 1-hour a fortnight seminar and 9 hours contract reading per week Students must be enrolled in the Indonesian Honours Program, and enrolment in the subject is subject to approval of the Coordinator. Students should note that approval of a course of reading will be subject to availability of staff with expertise in the field concerned. Students completing this subject should be able to:

• undertake independent research in Indonesian and Malaysian studies in areas of interest to them for which supervision is available;
• present the findings of their research in a scholarly manner.

Islam in Southeast Asia, Indonesian linguistics, modern Indonesian and Malay literature, modern Indonesian history and politics, Indonesian anthropology. Written work totalling 6,000 words.
