• have learned a basic vocabulary and basic sentence patterns enabling them to communicate at a very simple level;
• have acquired basic knowledge about the Indonesian society and culture.

An intensive subject developing the ability to speak, read and write Indonesian. Continuous assessment: oral and written assignments totalling not more than 3,000 words; and, at the end of the semester, one 2 hour written examination, a short aural comprehension test, and a 10 minute oral examination.
