<OBJECTIVES>Students who complete this subject should be able to: understand the role played by women in the history of the Middle East; identify theoretical and methodological approaches to research; appreciate the differences in women's status across the region and over time; incorporate the use of gender as a category of historical analysis.
<CONTENT>This subject covers the history of Middle Eastern Women in the context of religion (Islam, Christianity and Judaism) and social change. It treats gender inequalities, patriarchy, property rights and responses to social change.
<ASSESSMENT>Written work totalling not more than 5,000 words.
