<SEMESTER>Second semester
<CONTACT>Five hours a week comprising three hours of language study and two hours of Special Studies.
<OBJECTIVES>At the conclusion of the subject the students will have:
<ul>
<li>increased their proficiency in basic idiomatic and conversational forms and be able to converse freely using these forms;
<li>increased their proficiency in written structures of moderate complexity and be able to formulate such structures clearly and accurately;
<li>increased their ability to interpret messages of an intermediate level of complexity occurring in a variety of audio-visual media and in individual and group spoken forms;
<li>acquired a basic knowledge of the principles of analysis of the subjects of their Special Studies units;
<li>achieved the level of language competency required for admittance into Advanced German Second Year A (126-205).

<CONTENT>Expansion of language skills through language study as well as through special linguistic, textual and/or background studies. (See departmental Course and Subject Guide for details of these studies)
<ASSESSMENT>One one-hour language test, a 15 minute oral examination, two written assignments totalling no more than 1,000 words, and two two-hour written exams (Special Studies).
