<OBJECTIVES>Students completing this subject should be able to:
<ul>
<li>describe, narrate and discuss a variety of topics orally and in writing, with increasing accuracy and fluency;
<li>understand the gist and some detail of authentic printed and audio-visual materials varying in genre and content as well as in language register; these include literary texts from the Renaissance to the 20th century and excerpts from French television programs featuring a range of speaking styles;
<li>demonstrate a broader knowledge and understanding of French society and culture (past and present).
</ul>
<CONTENT>Reading, writing, listening and speaking practice through a variety of exercises and activities; study of topics relating to French society and culture (art, literature, song, etc. )
<ASSESSMENT>Two 1-hour written tests (40 per cent); two 15-minute oral tests (30 per cent); practical exercises submitted during the year (30 per cent).
