<OBJECTIVES>Students who complete this subject successfully will:

<li>be familiar with some important genres of popular fiction, and some representative examples of each genre;
<li>understand and apply theoretical concepts of form, ideology and readership to popular texts and fan communities.
</ul>
<CONTENT>This subject explores questions of form, ideology and the 'popular' itself in five genres: crime fiction, science fiction, the thriller, romance and the blockbuster.
<ASSESSMENT>Written work of up to 5,000 words.
