<PREREQUISITES>3rd year: Any two second year level criminology subjects; 4th year: Admission to Criminology Honours.

<CONTACT>One 1-hour lecture and one 2-hour seminar per week.
<OBJECTIVES>Students who complete this subject should be able to:
<ul>
<li>understand the major criminological studies of decision making;
<li>apply these studies to the operation of the criminal justice system;
<li>use the main techniques appropriate to the study of decision making.
</ul>
<CONTENT>An examination of theoretical and empirical studies of decision making in criminal justice and their implications for the operation of the criminal justice system; an introduction to techniques appropriate to the study of decision making.
<ASSESSMENT>Up to 5,000 words of written work at 3rd year level and 6,000 words at 4th year level. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work.
