<TITLE>CURRENT RESEARCH IN CRIMINOLOGY</TITLE>

<PREREQUISITES>3rd year: Any two second year level Criminology subjects; 4th year: Admission to Criminology Honours.
<SEMESTER>First semester
<CONTACT>A 1-hour lecture and a 2-hour seminar.
<OBJECTIVES>Students completing this subject should be:
<ul>
<li>familiar with the range of recent criminological research dealt with in lectures;
<li>able to evaluate recent criminological research in terms of the adequacy of its methodology and the effectiveness with which it is presented in publications;
<li>able to conduct library research into a given criminological topic and produce a logically structured, coherent, and concise evaluative report setting out the prior research on the topic in questions, and suggesting ways in which such research could be improved in future studies
</ul>
<CONTENT>An evaluation of very recent criminological research conducted in Australia and overseas.
<ASSESSMENT>Up to 5,000 words of written work at 3rd year level and 6,000 words at 4th year level. An examination may be substituted for part of the written work.
