<li><b>Objectives: </b>Students who complete this subject should:
<li>understand the various definitions used in the study of deviant behaviour;
<li>be able to assess the contributions of sociological perspectives on deviance;
<li>have knowledge about specific forms of deviant behaviour, including drug abuse, violence, white collar crime, suicide and mental illness;
<li>understand the public response to deviance, including public policy responses.
</ul>
<CONTENT>Examination of definitions of deviance, and sociological perspectives to study such behaviour. Review of specific forms of deviance (violence, white collar crime, suicide, mental illness) including the public policy options.
<ASSESSMENT>Up to 5,000 words of written work. An examination of up to two hours may be substituted for part of the written work.
