<CONTACT>Two 1-hour lectures and a 1-hour tutorial per week.
<OBJECTIVES>Upon completion of the subject, students should:
<ul>
<li>understand the broad historical origins of modern law enforcement;
<li>understand the broad functions, structures and purposes of modern law enforcement;
<li>be able to identify the historical, theoretical, political and functional contexts in which modern law enforcement takes place;
<li>be able to analyse critically current developments in law enforcement in terms of their historical, theoretical, political and functional contexts;
<li>be able to present and discuss law enforcement issues in a succinct and scholarly manner.
</ul>
<CONTENT>An overview of the political, social and historical forces which shape law enforcement organisations and policies.
<ASSESSMENT>Up to 5,000 words of written work. An examination of up to two hours may be substituted for part of the written work.
