<OBJECTIVES>Students on completion of the subject should have acquired an increased ability to utilise both literary sources and archaeological material for the study of ancient cultures.
<CONTENT>This subject will focus upon historical problems that necessitate both textual evidence and material evidence for study and interpretation. Semester 2 will concentrate on problems in the later ancient world, and may include topics such as imperial imagery, slavery, ethnicity, architecture and ritual.
<ASSESSMENT>Written work, tests and examinations totalling no more than 6,000 words.
