<PREREQUISITES>VCE Chinese plus knowledge of a Chinese dialect, or the equivalent.
<SEMESTER>First semester
<CONTACT>3 hours per week.
<OBJECTIVES>On conclusion of the subject students should be able to speak Mandarin with an acceptable standard accent. They will have some knowledge of modern Chinese literature and will be able to write modern Standard Chinese in an acceptable style.
<CONTENT>Advanced spoken and written Chinese for students who are literate in Mandarin Chinese.
<ASSESSMENT>One oral examination (10 minutes); regular tests (maximum 2,500 words); homework to a maximum of 2,500 words. Students are required to attend a minimum of 70% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
