<OBJECTIVES>Students on completion of the subject should have acquired the basics of Akkadian grammar; have an initial understanding of the problems of Akkadian epigraphy (the cuneiform script).
<CONTENT>The basic grammar and syntax of Akkadian; reading of simple texts illustrative of various aspects of Babylonian culture.
<ASSESSMENT><dl>

<dd>Regular exercises and class tests (30 per cent) and a 2-hour examination (70 per cent).
<dt><b>104-465:</b>
<dd>Written work, tests and examinations totalling no more than 6,000 words.
