<OBJECTIVES>Students completing this subject should:

<li>have a thorough knowledge of the classic ethnographies on which the discipline has been built;
<li>have thorough knowledge of the historical development of the discipline;
<li>have a broad-based general knowledge of the ethnographic record;
<li>be equipped to undertake fieldwork based research at postgraduate level.
</ul>
<CONTENT>An in-depth reading and examination of the classic ethnographies that have defined the discipline of anthropology in the twentieth century.
<ASSESSMENT>Written work of up to 6,000 words.
