16.7 4th year Dr E. Douglas Lewis. Entry to Fourth Year Honours. First semester A weekly 3-hour seminar. Students completing this subject should:

• have a thorough knowledge of the classic ethnographies on which the discipline has been built;
• have thorough knowledge of the historical development of the discipline;
• have a broad-based general knowledge of the ethnographic record;
• be equipped to undertake fieldwork based research at postgraduate level.

An in-depth reading and examination of the classic ethnographies that have defined the discipline of anthropology in the twentieth century. Written work of up to 6,000 words.
