<OBJECTIVES>Students completing this subject should:
<ul>
<li>have a general understanding of the social and cultural basis of human experience;
<li>have a general familiarity with the range of world-views documented in ethnographic literature;
<li>have a background of relevant ethnographic knowledge on which to base further anthropological studies.
</ul>
<CONTENT>An introduction to the anthropological study of religion, symbolism, language and gender, with an emphasis on the descriptive analysis of particular societies and cultures.
<ASSESSMENT>Written work of up to 3,000 words for the semester and a 1-hour class test.
