ADVANCED BUILDING LAW 12.5 Peter Williams. First semester Up to 4 hours of lectures/serminars a week. This subject extends the work undertaken in 700-420 Building Law. Students completing the subject should:
  • understand the evolution of the law relating to contractual disputation;
  • be able to recommend appropriate methods of building dispute resolution for situations arising in industry and capably take part in proceedings;
  • understand the background to industrial relations in Australia;
  • be able to develop appropriate responses to facilitate employer/employee relations;
  • be able to capably comply with building regulations and control procedures;
  • be able to capably deal with professional counterparts in the management of taxation, insurance, property and planning law and liability issues of concern to the building industry.
An extension of building law giving detailed treatment of select topics of particular relevance to building and construction including contracts and contractual disputation, insurance, professional liability, taxation, building regulations, planning law, the law of property, arbitration, mediation and conciliation.

The parties to industrial relations; the wage fixing system; developments in industrial relations particularly affecting the building industry.

 One examination of up to 2 hours duration; assignments equivalent to not more than 5,000 words.
