<OBJECTIVES>On completion of this subject students should be able to demonstrate that they:
<ul>
<li>understand the parameters in the design, installation, commissioning, and operation of building engineering services with particular reference to heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems;
<li>are able to direct the work of specialist consultants and contractors in the integration of services systems in complex building types;
<li>are able to effectively select engineering services systems from a range of available options;
<li>are able to document air-conditioning system designs and conduct post-occupancy evaluations of building air quality.

</OBJECTIVES>
<CONTENT>Indoor air quality and environmental comfort, refrigeration, heating and air handling plant; air distribution; energy efficiency; evaporative cooling; active solar heating and cooling systems; non-residential electrical, telecommunications, transportation and intelligent systems; special servicing conditions including: hospitals, auditoria, industrial buildings, commercial kitchen planning, and district services.
<ASSESSMENT>Exercises (eg: written and drawn assignments, class presentations) equivalent to not more than 5,000 words during the semester plus an examination (eg: written paper or class test) of up to 2 hours in duration. Details, including the weighting of assessments, will be made available within the first 2 weeks of the semester.
