Requirements of a major:
A major in English consists of at least five subjects completed at second and third-year level, totalling 83.3 points.
The prerequisite for any second-year or third-year English single-semester subject is normally a pass in any two first-year single-semester English subjects (except where subjects are taken as part of an approved interdepartmental program with its own entry requirements).
Entry to Honours:
The prerequisite for entry to fourth-year honours is the completion of a major in English (including 106-300 Research Essay A or 106-399 Research Essay B) with an average grade of H2A or higher. Entry to fourth-year honours requires the approval of the Head of Department and Faculty. Students must have completed all the requirements for the pass degree before enrolling in fourth-year honours.
Honours requirements:
Students taking Pure English Honours enrol in four single-semester subjects plus a thesis. Students taking Combined English Honours enrol in two single-semester subjects plus a thesis in English or in the combining subject.
