Applied Linguistics (Dept of Applied Linguistics and Language Studies)
Applied Linguistics is part of the School of Languages. This field draws upon knowledge and methods from several other academic disciplines, including linguistics, modern languages, anthropology, sociology and psychology. It provides theoretical concepts for understanding the relationships between language use, social forces, psychological processing and cultural patterns.
The department's undergraduate program is designed to provide theoretical and empirical insights into issues of language use and language acquisition. The subjects should be of particular interest to students in language departments, but will also appeal to any students interested in language issues.
