Statute 5.5 – The Faculty of The Victorian College of The Arts

5.5.1 Interpretation
In this statute, unless the contrary intention appears -
&director and dean, Victorian College of the Arts’ means the director and dean of the VCA appointed pursuant to section 5.5.4;
‘Enabling Act’ means Melbourne University (Victorian College of the Arts) Act 2006 of Victoria;
‘Former VCA’ means the Victorian College of the Arts as then constituted under the Victorian College of the Arts Act 1981 (Vic).
‘Heads of Agreement’1 means heads of agreement made on 15 November 2005 as amended between the University and the Former VCA;
‘Victorian College of the Arts’ and the “VCA” mean the faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts.
5.5.2 Establishment and objects
- The VCA
- has been established pursuant to the Enabling Act, as a faculty of the University, and therefore as the body charged with having general responsibility for, and oversight of, the implementation and performance of the University’s obligations under the Heads of Agreement; and
- is subject to the general provisions which apply to faculties under Statute 5.1 The Faculties, except as otherwise provided in this Statute 5.5.
- The objects of the VCA are as set out in the Enabling Act, and are supplemented by such further powers and obligations as are determined by regulation under this Statute 5.5 from time to time.
5.5.3 Use of premises
The Southbank premises occupied by the Former VCA shall be used by the University for educational purposes, with specific reference to the provision and expansion of training and education in the visual and performing arts and related purposes by the VCA.
5.5.4 Director and dean, Victorian College of the Arts
- The director and dean, Victorian College of the Arts, is the head of the Victorian College of the Arts and is appointed and holds office on terms and conditions determined from time to time by the Council.
- The director and dean, Victorian College of the Arts, is responsible and accountable directly to the Vice-Chancellor.
- Statute 5.3 – The Deans and Other Officers applies to an appointment made under this Statute 5.5 to the extent that it is not inconsistent with the terms and conditions of this Statute 5.5.
5.5.5 Other Officers
Subject to Statute 5.3, the faculty of the Victorian College of the Arts , on the recommendation of the director and dean, Victorian College of the Arts, may appoint any other officers on such terms and conditions as it considers appropriate.
