1. Membership
- Six members, appointed by the University Council for a term of three years
The Principal of the Hall
Two residents of the Hall co-opted by the Hall council annually after receipt of nominations from the Medley Hall Students' Club
One member of the Medley Hall Association appointed annually by the Council after consultation with the Association
The Medley Hall Council elects its chairperson at the final meeting each year for the next year.
- Notwithstanding their appointment for a term of three years one-third of the members appointed by the University Council for a term of three years are to retire each year. The members to retire first and second are determined by the University Council.
2. Functions and terms of reference
The general function of the Hall council is to exercise general management and control over the Hall.
After each meeting of the Hall council the minutes of the meeting will be sent to the University Council.
3. Executive Committee

The Executive Committee of the Hall council has power to act on behalf of the hall council with respect to urgent matters, with authority to act between meetings of the Hall council when appropriate.

(i) The Executive Committee is authorised to
- recommend on behalf of the Hall Council the amounts to be charged to persons for accommodation and services provided in the Hall;
- determine the charges to be made to non University bodies for use of facilities in the Hall;
- advise the Hall Council on any matters which it wishes the council to consider and which involve the present and future needs of the Hall;
- authorise expenditure of funds to the maximum amount determined by the Hall Council;
- nominate one of its members to any staff selection committee established by the Hall Council;
- to act on behalf of the Hall Council in urgent matters.
(ii) the Executive Committee is required to-
(a) submit to the Hall Council on or before the last meeting of the Hall Council in any one year a budget for the operation of the Hall for the year next ensuing;
(b) act on behalf of the Hall Council when requested to do so by the Hall Council.
4. Elections
At the final meeting for each year the Medley Hall Council elects the Chairperson of the Hall Council and the member to be nominated as the Hall Council member on the Executive Committee of the Hall Council for the ensuing year.
