Objectives of Asialink
- The objectives of Asialink are to-
- advance the understanding of the cultures and societies of Asian countries within the Australian community and the University;
- promote Australia and the University in the Asian region;
- play an active role in the development of the Asia Institute;
- conduct public lectures and seminars and produce related publications, where appropriate in conjunction with the Asia Instituteand other bodies, on topics relevant to enhancing Australia’s understanding of Asia and Asia’s understanding of Australia;
- undertake, by agreement, special projects designed to enhance the international strategy of the University related to Asia;
- conduct programs designed to enhance appreciation of Asian arts and culture in Australia and the appreciation of Australian arts and culture in Asia. Where appropriate such activities are to be conducted in partnership with The Ian Potter Museum of Art;
- participate in the Asia-related educational and cultural programs of the Australian Government; and
- develop a secure funding base for Asialink
The Board
- The board of Asialink is responsible for the strategic planning and policy of the department. The chairperson of the board is to be appointed by Council on the recommendation of the vice-chancellor after consultation between the vice-chancellor and the president of the Myer Foundation.
Board Meetings
- The board of Asialink meets four times per year and at other times as required.
The Director
- Council must appoint a director to be the head of department and who, subject to the direction of the board, manages and is responsible for the affairs of the department.
Reporting
- The board of Asialink must provide an operational and financial report annually to Council through the office of the vice-chancellor.
The Board comprises-
6.1 (a) the vice-chancellor or the vice-chancellor’s nominee;
(b) two members nominated by the Myer Foundation;
(c) the director, Asialink;
(d) the director, Asia Institute;
(e) deputy vice-chancellor, international;
(f) up to fourteen members appointed by the vice-chancellor, in consultation with the chairperson of Asialink; and
(g) up to two co-opted members.
6.2 A person appointed under section 6.1(f) and (g) holds office for three years and is eligible for re-appointment.
