Recitals-
- The Council, in November 1953, launched an appeal to raise a fund for the establishment of chairs of Medicine and surgery in the University and for the furtherance of research in medicine and surgery.
- The Council sought the approval of Her Majesty the Queen for the fund thus inaugurated to be called "The King George VI Memorial Fund for the Advancement of Medical Education in Victoria" which approval Her Majesty the Queen graciously gave.
- The sum of £24,606 18s. was subscribed to the fund by the public, which sum increased to $37,759 at 31 December 1994.
It is provided as follows-
- The sum of $37,759 and any accumulations and additions to the sum forms a fund called "The King George VI Memorial Fund for the Advancement of Medical Education in Victoria" (“the fund”) and the fund must be invested as the Council from time to time directs.
- The Council had power to direct the payment from the fund of any sum not exceeding £15,000 towards the establishment and maintenance of chairs of Medicine and Surgery during the years 1954 and 1955.
- The capital and income of the remainder of the fund may be expended for the maintenance of the chairs of Medicine and Surgery and the furtherance of research in the subjects of Medicine and Surgery in Victoria in such amounts as the Council, after receiving the advice of the faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, determines from time to time. Amounts which the Council determines to devote to research are funds available for research within the meaning of Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences Regulation 5.1.R2 made under Statute 5.1.7 so as to make their expenditure subject to recommendations of the Medical Research Committee under that regulation. When making any recommendation in respect of any such amount the Medical Research Committee must give priority to Clinical Research.
