R6.209 - THE OTTI VEIT VIOLONCELLO SCHOLARSHIP
Recitals-
- In 2001, Mr K Robert Eisner of East Ivanhoe in the State of Victoria
gave to the University the sum of $250,000 to endow a scholarship
in memory of his late wife, Otti Veit, a former teacher of violoncello
in the faculty of Music, who died on 21 October 2000.
- It was the donor's wish that the scholarship be known as the Otti
Veit Violoncello Scholarship.
It is provided as follows-
- The sum of $250,000 and any accumulations and additions to the sum
form a fund called 'The Otti Veit Violoncello Scholarship Fund' ('the
fund') and the fund must be placed in an investment pool and remain
there until the Council directs otherwise.
- The scholarship is awarded annually to an outstanding student enrolled
in a course in violoncello performance in either the faculty of Music
('the faculty') or the Victorian College of the Arts ('the VCA').
- The scholarship is awarded by the Council on the recommendation
of the dean of the faculty ('the dean') after consulting the head
of the VCA School of Music provided that if after such consultation
the dean believes that there is no candidate of sufficient merit,
the dean may recommend that the scholarship not be awarded.
- In making a recommendation for the award of the scholarship, the
dean must consider both the financial and the musical merits of the
candidates.
- . The scholarship is of such value as the Council on the recommendation
of the dean may determine but must not exceed the net annual income
of the fund.
- Any unexpended income may be added to the capital of the fund.
- If at any time it becomes impractical or impossible to award the
scholarship, the Council may apply the income of the fund together
with such part of the capital as it may consider necessary for another
purpose provided that such purpose is as close as possible to the
donor's intentions and continues to commemorate the name of Otti Veit.
