Recitals-
- Mrs. Mabel Ashton Walker of Harcourt Street,
Hawthorn, desiring to found a memorial to her late husband Fred Walker,
manufacturer, of Melbourne, presented to the University the sum of
£1,335 to form the endowment of a scholarship to be awarded
each year to a student who has completed the Third Year of the Science
course and desires to do a Fourth Year in Chemistry for the degree
of Master of Science.
- The University received £1,335 at the time
of the donation, which sum increased to $3,779 at 31 December 1994.
- At 31 December 2003 the capital of the fund
was $7,761.00 and the accumulated income was $576.92.
It is provided as follows
- The sum of $3,779 and any accumulations and
additions to the sum is to form a fund called the 'Fred Walker Scholarship'
('the fund') and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and
remain there until Council directs otherwise.
- The amount of the scholarship is to be the net
annual income of the fund.
- The scholarship is to be open to competition
at the annual assessment in Chemistry among candidates who, at that
annual assessment, complete the course for the degree of Bachelor
of Science but must not be held jointly with a Cuming Memorial Scholarship
in Chemistry.
- The scholarship is to be tenable in the department
of Chemistry at the University on condition that the holder devote
himself or herself to preparation in Chemistry for the degree of master
of Science.
