Recitals-

  1. Mary Turner and Grace Turner of the Hotel Windsor Melbourne desiring to perpetuate the memory of the late Sir George Turner, P.C., K.C.M.G., a barrister and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Victoria sometime Premier of Victoria and the first Treasurer of the Commonwealth of Australia and to encourage in the University thorough study of Law presented to the University on 9 September 1929 the sum of £500.
  2. From 2008, the faculty of Law became a graduate school established as a faculty known as Melbourne Law School (‘MLS’).
  3. The sum of £500 increased to $1,263 at 31 December 1994.

It is provided as follows-

  1. The sum of $1,263 and any accumulations and additions to the sum forms a fund called the ‘Sir George Turner Exhibition’ (‘fund’) and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and remain there until the Council directs otherwise.
  2. The value of the exhibition is the net annual income of the fund.
  3. The exhibition is awarded annually to the top ranked student in a subject in the field of constitutional law, such subject to be determined from time to time by the dean of MLS.
