R6.10 - Ormond Exhibitions and Scholarships in Music

Recitals-

  1. In 1897 a donation of £5,217 12s. 7d. was made to the University for the purpose of founding exhibitions and scholarships for the encouragement of the study of Music in connection with the Ormond chair of Music in the University.
  2. The University received £5,217 12s. 7d. at the time of the donation, which sum increased to $53,839 at 31 December 1994.

It is provided as follows-

  1. The sum of $53,839 forms a fund known as the "Ormond Exhibitions and Scholarships in Music Fund" ("the fund") and any accumulations or additions to the sum must be paid into the fund and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and must remain there until the Council directs otherwise.
  2. The aggregate value of the exhibitions and scholarships open for award in any year must not exceed the net annual income of the fund.
  3. Subject to section 2 the Council may, on the recommendation of the faculty of Music ("the faculty"), award annually -
    1. up to two exhibitions of not less than $250 each to the student or students with the best results in the Second Year of the course for the degree of bachelor of Music or bachelor of Music Education;
    2. up to two exhibitions of not less than $250 each to the student or students with the best results in the Third Year of the course for the degree of bachelor of Music or bachelor of Music Education; and
    3. one scholarship of not less than $3,750 to the candidate for an award for postgraduate study or research in the faculty who, in the opinion of the faculty on the advice of the dean, is the best candidate not in receipt of any other postgraduate award.
