R6.8 - PROFESSOR KERNOT SCHOLARSHIP
Recitals-
A. William Charles Kernot M. A., M. C. E., first professor of Engineering in the University, on 27 June 1887 presented to the University the sum of £2000 for the purpose of founding scholarships for the encouragement of the study of Physics and Chemistry.
B. William Charles Kernot, on 28 March 1908, presented to the University a further sum of £200 for the purpose of providing with the accumulations of the aforesaid sum of £2000 an endowment sufficient to found an additional scholarship for the encouragement of the study of Geology.
C. The department of Geology has been re-named the School of Earth Sciences.
D. The University received £2,200 at the time of the donation, which sum increased to $45,000 at 31 May 1998.
It is provided as follows-
1. The sum of $45,000 and any accumulations and additions to the sum forms the endowment for three scholarships to be called the "Professor Kernot Research Scholarship in Physics", the "Professor Kernot Research Scholarship in Chemistry" and the "Professor Kernot Research Scholarship in Geology" respectively ("the fund") and the fund must be paid into an investment pool and remain there until the Council directs otherwise.
2. Each of the scholarships is of the value of one-third of the net annual income of the fund and is tenable for one year.
3. Each of the scholarships is to be awarded by the Council on the recommendation of the heads of the schools of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences respectively.
