R3.91 - Degree of Doctor of Commerce

  1. (1) The faculty of Economics and Commerce (“the faculty”) may admit to candidature for the degree of doctor of Commerce any person who is
    1. a bachelor of Commerce; or
    2. a master of Commerce; or
    3. (i) a graduate in any other faculty of the University; or

      (ii) a graduate of any other university or tertiary educational institution who satisfies the faculty that he or she has had adequate training and experience in a discipline recognised by the faculty pursuant to Statute 11.1.6 as appropriate for the purposes of this regulation.

    (2) In every case the candidate must be of not less than seven years' standing from the time of first qualifying for a degree.

  1. Every candidate must submit for examination in a form approved by the faculty original work, whether published or unpublished, the subject, scope and character of which have been approved by the faculty as appropriate for submission for this degree. The examiners must not certify that the candidate has satisfied the assessment unless they are satisfied that the work submitted makes a substantial and original contribution to learning.
  2. (1) A candidate must not submit for assessment work in respect of which a degree has been awarded in any university or other tertiary educational institution or, without the permission of the faculty, work which has previously been presented for any such degree.

    (2) Where the work submitted incorporates work which has been previously submitted for a degree in any university or other tertiary educational institution, the candidate must clearly indicate which portion of the work has been so submitted.

    (3) If any of the work submitted was prepared in collaboration with another person, the candidate must state clearly and fully the nature and extent of that collaboration.

  1. A candidate who has fulfilled the requirements of this regulation and who has satisfied the examiners may be admitted to the degree of doctor of Commerce.
