R3.8 - Concurrent Diploma

  1. In this regulation unless a contrary intention appears-

    "nominated discipline or speciality" means a discipline or specialty listed in Regulation 5.4.R1, as amended from time to time, which is offered by the respective faculty referred to in the same regulation, and

    "faculty" is deemed to include the School of the Victorian College of the Arts and Melbourne Business School.
  2. A person may be a candidate for a concurrent diploma in a nominated discipline or specialty offered by a faculty ("the faculty") and authorised by the Academic Board, who has-
    1. (i) gained entry to an undergraduate course in the University in a faculty other than that in which the concurrent diploma is offered; and

      (ii) demonstrated to the relevant faculty sufficient ability to undertake studies offered in the concurrent diploma; and
    2. satisfied any other requirements of the faculty regarding the specialty to be studied; and
    3. obtained the consent of the faculty.
  3. The subjects of the course for the concurrent diploma and the conditions on which such subjects may be taken are those prescribed by the Academic Board on the recommendation of the faculty and published with the details of subjects.
  4. A candidate who, after being admitted as a candidate, has-
    1. pursued a course of studies for the time prescribed or for any variation of the time which has been formally approved by that faculty; and
    2. attended lectures and classes and undertaken such assignments, investigations and practical work as prescribed by the Academic Board on the recommendation of the relevant faculty; and
    3. completed to the satisfaction of the examiners the prescribed assessments,
    may be granted the concurrent diploma appropriate to the discipline or specialty studied, with the award title listed in Regulation 5.4.R1.
  5. A candidate for the concurrent diploma who, for whatever reason, ceases to be enrolled in the undergraduate degree course in conjunction with which the diploma course has been approved as a concurrent study, is not permitted to complete the diploma course unless he or she is permitted to re-enrol in an undergraduate degree course in conjunction with which the relevant faculty formally approves a resumption of the diploma studies.
  6. The undergraduate degree must be completed before the diploma may be granted.
