- Victorian College of the Arts Integration with the University of Melbourne
1.1 Council received a document prepared by the Senior Vice-Principal.
1.2 Council noted that the Department of Education and Training had been advised that the University and the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) had agreed that the Victorian legislation should provide that, notwithstanding any other provision in the Melbourne University Act, from the date of the commencement of the legislation, there shall be a faculty of the University called the faculty of the Victorian College of the arts with objects as specified.
The Department was advised that it had also been agreed that the objects for the faculty of the VCA should be those currently specified for the VCA, subject to two modifications:
- Object (v) should be amended to read as follows –
“to consult and collaborate in the interests of the community with other arts organisations and people”; and
- Object (vi) should be deleted as this is subsumed within the objects of the University of Melbourne
1.3 Council agreed that it would be appropriate to join with the VCA in further demonstrating commitment to integration of the two bodies by deleting from their Heads of Agreement the clause which allowed either party to withdraw from negotiations in the period during which the enabling legislation was to be finalized (Clause 23).
1.4 Council adopted the recommendation that it agree to the deletion of Clause 23 of the Heads of Agreement and that the Minister for Education and Training be advised accordingly.
There being no further business, the meeting closed.
