Honorary Recipients

The University awards honorary degrees to persons it wishes to recognise for their distinguished achievements in a branch of learning or service to the wider community.

The first honorary degree was conferred in 1868. Since then, the University of Melbourne has awarded over two hundred honorary doctorates.

On the 10th of May 2003, 8 distinguised persons were added to this number.
